Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This policy explains what personal data Affordable Custom Software collects from visitors to this website, how it is used, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
1. Who we are
Affordable Custom Software is operated by Colin Meeks, based in Canada, providing bespoke software development services to clients primarily in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, we act as the data controller for personal data collected through this website.
Contact for data matters: support@affordablecustomsoftware.co.uk
2. What data we collect and why
Contact and quote forms
When you submit the contact or quote request form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This data is used solely to respond to your enquiry. The legal basis is legitimate interests (responding to a request you have initiated) and, where you are requesting a service, steps towards a potential contract.
We do not add you to any mailing list, share your details with third parties for marketing, or use them for any purpose beyond responding to your enquiry. Enquiry data is retained for up to 2 years, after which it is deleted.
Analytics (with consent only)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymised data about how visitors use this site — pages visited, time spent, browser type, and approximate location (country/region level). We do not collect precise location data or personally identifiable information through analytics.
IP anonymisation is enabled. Analytics data is retained for 14 months within Google's systems. The legal basis is consent, which you can withdraw at any time (see Section 4).
Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC, which may involve transfer of data to servers in the United States. Google operates under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
Server logs
Like all web servers, our hosting automatically logs IP addresses, request times, and pages accessed. These logs are used only for security and maintenance purposes and are not linked to any personal identity. They are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
3. Third-party services
This site uses the following third-party services, which may involve data being processed outside the UK:
- Google Fonts — font files are served from Google's CDN (
fonts.gstatic.com). Your IP address is transmitted to Google when fonts are loaded. No cookie is set. Google's privacy policy applies. - FontAwesome — icons are delivered via FontAwesome's kit CDN. Your IP address is transmitted to FontAwesome's servers. No personal data is stored by us as a result.
- Google Analytics 4 — only loaded with your consent (see above).
4. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage (not cookies) to store your cookie consent preference. This is a technical necessity to avoid showing the consent banner on every page visit. It does not track you and is not shared with any third party.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 sets the following cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique users for analytics | 2 years |
_ga_XXXX | Maintains analytics session state | 2 years |
To withdraw analytics consent, clear your browser's local storage for this site, then reload the page and choose "Decline" when the banner reappears. Alternatively, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data (subject to any legal retention requirements)
- Restriction — ask us to stop processing your data in certain circumstances
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, email support@affordablecustomsoftware.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
